Some people are concerned about Computer Forensics, as they want their personal information on their computers safe and secure. A few are very concerned especially if they are up to “no good” as they know that their information might get them into really serious trouble and there will be criminal implications. Either way, no one wants to have their data compromised, hacked or open for identity theft right? Well, that is the bad news, I guess, but there is an upside to computer forensics and let me tell you a little story, something that happened to me, that made my day.

The Windows registry is a directory which stores settings and options for the operating system for Microsoft Windows 32-bit versions, 64-bit versions and Windows Mobile. It contains information and settings for all the hardware, operating system software, most non-operating system software, users, preferences of the PC, etc. Whenever a user makes changes to Control Panel settings, file associations, system policies, or installed software, the changes are reflected and stored in the registry.

Most employers and staff are shocked when they discover that an employee has been executing crimes right under their noses. The thing with white collar crimes is that criminals don’t necessarily “look” like criminals and they often proceed for years without being caught.
